Two small groups under one roof, with a shared morning circle, shared celebrations and a gently guided transition.
Our youngest have their own little world with a group room and a sleeping room. Here the child sets the rhythm; we adapt to them, not the other way around.
The older children conquer the world: in the group room with its dream house and mezzanine, in the creative room, and outside in the park and forest.
Steady rituals give the children a sense of security. The morning and the late afternoon belong to everyone together; in between, each group follows its own rhythm: the Räupli (from 3 months) go entirely by their own needs for sleep and food, while the Schmätterlinge (from 2 years) enjoy a day full of projects, little jobs and outings.
Both groups start the day together: time for a brief handover, a first game and a gentle arrival.
Everyone meets for the shared morning circle: a welcome song and hand puppets like Zottel, Grandpa Alfred and Miss Schnatter-Schnute, and the youngest Räupli learn from the older ones along the way. At the end we hand out the “chore cards”.
Healthy, varied and shared at the table: as a Purzelbaum daycare, we pay attention to good nutrition every day. Then it's time for washing hands and changing nappies.
Now each group goes to its own rooms, and the morning is planned to suit the children's age.
Räupli · The child sets the pace: playing, crawling, cuddling or sleeping, just as needed. In the soft-play area, the littlest ones try out their first moves.
Schmätterling · Changing projects, crafting and painting in the creative room, or focused work at the Montessori trays, plus the day's little jobs.
Lunch is shared at the table in a cosy setting: the meal is freshly prepared and delivered by “Menu and More”.
Räupli · Lunch as early as 10.45 am: the youngest get a bottle or freshly cooked organic purée; breastfeeding is possible anytime, and those who like can practise with a spoon.
Schmätterling · Lunch at 11.30 am: serving themselves small portions, trying a bit of everything if they like and drinking from a cup.
After the meal the house grows quiet, and each group has its own way of settling down to sleep.
Räupli · A midday nap from around 12 to 2 pm in their own sleeping room. A key person settles each child individually; children who wake up rested can go back to playing.
Schmätterling · Quiet time from around 12.45 pm with a story or the Tonie box. Those who are tired sleep; the older ones simply rest or look at books.
Every day we head outside to the park, in any weather. When the sun is out, the afternoon snack (3.45 pm) is served right outside.
Räupli · Out and about in the pram or holding a hand: this is where the very first steps happen.
Schmätterling · Longer walks and outings, plus forest days (Albisgüetli) ideally every week, in any weather.
You can pick up your child from 5 pm until we close at 6.15 pm. At the personal handover we tell you what your child experienced, ate and discovered today; for the Räupli, everything is also noted in their own daycare diary.
And over the year? Lantern parade, elf week, summer party, plus all holidays and closing days: See the annual programme →

Ideally every week the Schmätterlinge group heads into the forest at Albisgüetli: making fire, cooking outdoors, watching animals, in sun, rain and snow.

Since 2022 we have carried the “Purzelbaum” label: plenty of movement every day, healthy morning and afternoon snacks, and every now and then a breakfast buffet where the children put together their own breakfast.

Step by step following the Berlin model, usually around 8 days, until your child feels secure. A dedicated key person accompanies you through the first weeks.
